The heart of HX5
St Mary's is the ancient parish church of Elland, standing above the town with its eight bells and its medieval tower. Stones in the chancel arch date to about 1170 and most of the building is 13th and 14th century, and it is still a working church with Sunday and midweek services. It is the fixed point people place themselves by heading into Elland.
